A Review: Teaching Recount Texts

Recount is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to entertain the audience by retell the true events that we’ve experienced.

I’ve read two articles about teaching recount text:

1.    Teaching Writing Recount through Daily Activity, by: Ulfah Fitri Ikayati (blog)

2.    How to Teach Recounts in English Class, by: Erin Scheiner (http://www.ehow.com/how_6513563_teach-recounts-english-class.html#ixzz1DBfCgDos)

In Ulfah’s  writing, she explains enough about what is recount, how it is important, and about that this can be taught during daily activities. She also explain it clear enough with the types of activities that we can applied to teach it. In my opinion, we can make her writing as our “recommendation” to teach recounts text, but unfortunately she does not explain how the steps, what should we do first to teach it, she’s just explain about what we can do but not not the steps.

While in Erin’s writing we can found that she mentioned the steps clearly, includes what we should explain about. She mention it in 7 steps what should we to in teaching it. That’s could be very helpful for us if we are new in teaching activities.

Hope my review will be usefull for us..
